This working group used the popular and successful Writers' workshop format. Each author delegate provided a paper either describing architectural components or patterns, or providing experience or analysis of the area.
The other delegates reviewed the papers providing feedback to the author on the area. The structure and rules of the review process have been developed by long experience in work on patterns. In our experience a key benefit of this method is that reviewers as well as authors gain significant insights into the meaning and content of the papers.
Following the writer's workshops there was a structured discussion of one or more topics suggested by the papers. We used this to generate an action plan for delegates throughout the rest of the conference.
The following are the papers submitted to the workshop. They are in A4 Postscript format.
A Flexible Model for Financial Instruments and the Interior Decorator Pattern by John Oldland.
Software Architect as Urban Spaceman by David Harvey
Extending behaviour: delegation versus inheritance by Anthony Willoughby.
A Client-Server Architectural Style by Charles Weir - there is a new version at my European Patterns paper
An Architecture for a Alarm Correlation Engine by Niall Ross - updated version following comments.
The papers are in PostScript format. If you need help printing them, see this page.
